Posidonia 2010
15 June 2010
BCTQ's Graeme Armstrong & Nigel Smith attended Posidonia this month joining the team at IMarEST to meet and greet contacts old and new. As always with Posidonia it was a mixture of hot days and many networking events - 138 to be precise - but business was done.
The global appeal of Posidonia 2010 is reflected in the fact that there were 18,000 visitors from 87 nations who attended the prestigious forum.
The Greek maritime community was also excited about the glitter and glamour of this year’s Posidonia which bucked the trend of Greece’s economic woes by putting together a spectacular show that sets new benchmarks in shipping networking affairs. George Gabriel, Deputy Chairman of Piraeus-based Golden Union said: “Posidonia is the world’s most important shipping event providing a platform to the best-of-breed maritime companies to network, discuss and conduct business while helping Greece to showcase its potential and promote its image and tourism attractions.”

Ince & Co. Yacht Seminar
29 January 2010
On Thursday 28 January Albert Levy, on behalf of the Yacht Group at Ince & Co, welcomed 50 guests to the fourth seminar in their series of "Turning the Dream into Reality".
The final presentation was by BCTQ's Daria Cabaj, on "Design of modern yachts for damage stability". In May 2009 Daria was awarded the RINA/Lloyds Register Educational Trust Ship Safety Award for her Floodable Length Surfaces (FLS) software tool. This helps designers understand the implications of adding, deleting or moving bulkheads within their designs. Daria also covered the various regulations governing yacht safety and the impact that these have on design issues. Her comments on the proposed 13-36 Code and the change in style between a probabilistic approach to a more deterministic approach were instructive to those that would be involved in the design process. It was fascinating for those of us that have not been involved in this side of the process to see how complicated this area of yacht design really is.
